Today was glorious, high clouds, no rain and sunshine in the evening. Spent the day paddling around Bartlett Cove - had lunch at Cooper's Notch. Lots of bears on the beach foraging at low tide, saw a sow and three little cubs - very cute. Lots of bald eagles on the beach too. One sea otter hanging out in the kelp.

Reflections in Bartlett Cove
Reflections in Bartlett Cove. In the foreground is the "inner lagoon"near park headquarters. In the distance are the Fairweather Mountains - southern extension of the St. Elias Mountain Range - considered one of the highest coastal mountain range in the world. Mt. Fairweather rises to 15,300 ft. almost right out of the ocean - only a few miles from the coast!
July Orca Sightings
A transient pod of Orca arrived in the bay mid-July. While on board the m/v Seabird (National Geographic), July 9th, passengers were in awe and thrilled beyond belief to spend over an hour watching 15 whales. They were heading north in the bay possibly on a mission to hunt harbor seals.
While it is not unusual to see Orcas in Glacier Bay during the summer, you really have to be in the right place at the right time, so . . . . not too many visitors get this up close and personal!
